New Mentality Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD) Program

The New Mentality PTSD Program is designed to treat and improve the lives of adults that have been diagnosed or have symptoms of PTSD, without the use of medication.

The New Mentality PTSD program has been developed to help adults improve emotional stress in social situations, important events, daily routines, post-traumatic experiences or wherever experiences they feel limited, threatened, worried and/or constantly try to avoid.

With our innovative technology, we can treat it without the use of medications. Our neurotherapist can perform what’s known as a “brain map” to begin the assessment process and begin to understand how the individual’s brain is functioning. With that information and a combination of other clinical assessments, the team at New Mentality can create a treatment program best suited to assist in improving attention, focus, processing speed, and performance.

Post‑traumatic stress disorder is a mental‑health condition that can develop after you experience —or directly witness—life‑threatening events such as assault, accidents, combat, natural disasters, or medical emergencies.

Most people recover naturally within a few weeks, but about 1 in 20 adults continue to feel the shock long after the danger has passed. When those reactions last more than one month and interfere with relationships, work, or health, clinicians call it PTSD (DSM‑5‑TR).

DID YOU KNOW?

What is PTSD (ADULTS)

Post‑traumatic stress disorder is a stress‑ and fear‑based condition that can develop after a person experiences or witnesses a life‑threatening or deeply distressing event—for example assault, serious accidents, combat, sexual violence, natural disasters, or sudden medical crises. While most people feel shaken for a short period, PTSD describes the subset who remain stuck in “survival mode” for more than one month, so that memories, emotions, and body reactions linked to the trauma keep disrupting daily life.

What causes PTSD?

  • Direct exposure to trauma – being the victim, a first‑hand witness, or repeatedly seeing graphic details in one’s work (e.g., first‑responders, journalists).

  • Neurobiology & genetics – heightened reactivity of the amygdala (fear center) and lower calming activity from the pre‑frontal cortex; certain genes affecting stress hormones raise vulnerability.

  • Prior adversity – childhood abuse or earlier untreated trauma “primes” the nervous system to over‑learn danger signals.

  • Lack of social support after the event – isolation makes it harder for the brain to file the memory away as “over.”

  • Other risk factors – pre‑existing anxiety/depression, substance misuse, or traumatic brain injury can all widen the doorway to PTSD.

Key signs to watch for

  • Intrusion Unwanted memories, vivid nightmares, flashbacks that feel “live.”
  • Avoidance Steering clear of reminders—places, people, TV news, even certain thoughts.
  • Negative mood & beliefs Guilt (“It was my fault”), shame, numbness, loss of interest, feeling the world is unsafe.
  • Hyper‑arousal & reactivity Jumpiness, irritability, trouble sleeping, concentration gaps, reckless or self‑destructive behavior.

If these reactions last longer than 30 days, began after a specific trauma, and impair work, study, relationships, or health, a PTSD assessment is warranted.

How is PTSD diagnosed?

A qualified mental‑health clinician:

  1. Interviews you about the traumatic event and current symptoms.

  2. Uses standard tools (e.g., CAPS‑5 or PCL‑5) to score severity.

  3. Applies DSM‑5‑TR rules: proof of trauma + specific symptom counts lasting > 1 month + life impact.

  4. Rules out other causes (medical issues, substances, overlapping disorders).

If all criteria fit, PTSD is confirmed and a treatment plan is drafted.
