PTSD
The New Mentality PTSD Program is designed to treat and improve the lives of adults that have been diagnosed or have symptoms of PTSD. Our treatments are medication-free. We proudly serve Mooresville, the Lake Norman area including Cornelius, Davidson, Huntersville, and surrounding areas.
The New Mentality PTSD program has been developed to help adults improve emotional stress in social situations. Important events, daily routines or post-traumatic experiences, wherever experiences they feel limited, threatened, worried and/or constantly try to avoid.
With our innovative, medication‑free neurotherapy, we can effectively treat PTSD using non‑invasive brain assessment and training techniques. Our registered neurotherapist first conducts a comprehensive brain assessment, such as a quantitative EEG (“brain map”), to evaluate how your brain is functioning. From this baseline, we gather additional clinical data to craft a personalized treatment program designed specifically to support your healing journey.
Post‑traumatic stress disorder is a mental‑health condition that can develop after you experience or directly witness life‑threatening events such as assault, accidents, combat, natural disasters, or medical emergencies.
Most people recover naturally within a few weeks, but about 1 in 20 adults continue to feel the shock long after the danger has passed. When those reactions last more than one month and interfere with relationships, work, or health, clinicians call it PTSD.

DID YOU KNOW?
Post‑traumatic stress disorder is a stress and fear‑based condition that can develop after a person experiences or witnesses a life‑threatening or deeply distressing event. For example assault, serious accidents, combat, sexual violence, natural disasters, or sudden medical crises. While most people feel shaken for a short period, PTSD describes the subset who remain stuck in “survival mode” for more than one month. Therefore memories, emotions, and body reactions linked to the trauma keep disrupting daily life.
Direct exposure to trauma – being the victim, a first‑hand witness, or repeatedly seeing graphic details in one’s work (e.g., first‑responders, journalists).
Neurobiology & genetics – heightened reactivity of the amygdala (fear center) and lower calming activity from the pre‑frontal cortex; certain genes affecting stress hormones raise vulnerability.
Prior adversity – childhood abuse or earlier untreated trauma “primes” the nervous system to over‑learn danger signals.
Lack of social support after the event – isolation makes it harder for the brain to file the memory away as “over.”
Other risk factors – pre‑existing anxiety/depression, substance misuse, or traumatic brain injury can all widen the doorway to PTSD.
If these reactions last longer than 30 days, began after a specific trauma, and impair work, study, relationships, or health, a PTSD assessment is warranted.
A qualified mental‑health clinician:
Interviews you about the traumatic event and current symptoms.
Uses standard tools (e.g., CAPS‑5 or PCL‑5) to score severity.
Applies DSM‑5‑TR rules: proof of trauma + specific symptom counts lasting > 1 month + life impact.
Rules out other causes (medical issues, substances, overlapping disorders).
If all criteria fit, PTSD is confirmed and a treatment plan is drafted.
